Go Indie on Monday Night’s at The Echo

February 26, 2011

I love live music, especially when it’s free. Living on a grad student budget doesn’t always allow for the frequent purchase of $60+ concert tickets. This means investing lots of time searching sites like LA Weekly, LAist, EyeSpyLA and OhMyRockness for some good, and hopefully cheap, live shows.

A priceless tip I learned is that The Echo (@TheEchoLA), an intimate, general admission only hipster venue in Echo Park offers free shows every Monday night featuring upcoming bands. Each month several bands play a 4 week residency. And, because this is Los Angeles, the bands are usually extremely talented (depending on your taste in music). For the month of February, Everest, Young Hunting, Papa and Slang Chicken are gracing the stage. If you haven’t heard of these bands, no worries as The Echo’s website lists direct links to check out their music. The Echo is one of my favorite local music venues and it’s a reminder of how lucky I am to live in LA.

Below The Echo is The Echoplex. While they are attached and part of the same venue, the 2 venues host different shows and have different entrances which can get confusing. If you decide to catch a show at The Echo or The Echoplex, make sure to keep an eye out for the venues as there are no signs outside. Click here for a map on where to find the entrances. If you happen to have a Monday night free, I highly suggest getting your indie on at The Echo.
